🧩 Why Learn Cubing?? 🧩
Many of my students have seen these translate over to improvements in their handwriting, improvements in they typing speed, help some younger children be more adept at using utensils to eat and also in sports.
Why Get a Coach??
Coaches help you avoid pitfalls and help you build a strong foundation that you need. Having years of experience in cubing, they can craft the appropriate curriculum, taking your strengths and skillset into consideration.
When learning by yourself, it might take hours to find the appropriate resources. There are often multiple techniques to solve the same case. Most of the time, the easiest solution is not necessarily the best one for speed and efficiency. Picking up bad techniques will be detrimental.
There are even multiple finger and hand positions to execute move sequences. If done incorrectly and repeated over time, the wrong movements will become muscle memory, be ingrained and tough to retrain. Coaches take into account your responsibilities, interests and duties outside of cubing, help you build a strong foundation, and come up with plans that you can keep to to reach your goals.
Where to Find Good Coaches??
There are 3 companies and a few freelancers in Singapore that do physical coaching, a few overseas that do online coaching. There are namely, Cubewerks, Mofunland, and Codylocks (where I teach and lead a team to develop comprehensive, engaging curriculums).
Cubewerks is located in the east of Singapore at Katong Shopping Center, Mofunland has two outlets, one in the CBD of Singapore at Marina Square, and another in the west at West Coast Plaza. Codylocks has two outlets, one located in the heartlands of northern Singapore in Yishun Industrial Building and another in Paya Lebar- central Singapore, at Ubi Center.
Cubing Hardware??
Depending on turning style and budget, different cubers prefer different brands and types of cubes. There are different twisty puzzles and some brands are better at making specific puzzles compared to others.
All the coaching places in Singapore also sell Rubik's cubes retail. The good thing about physical stores is that potential buyers can try out the models they are interested in.
If you can wait for the cubes, online stores are also an option. Taobao tends to sell these gadgets cheapest, but their delivery is also the longest. Also, a good command of Chinese is necessary to find the correct cube you want as the app and the sellers can only communicate in Mandarin. However, with discounts, some stores might have exclusive merchandise and good prices that rival those you find on Taobao. Singapore's very own online store DailyPuzzles and TheCubicle are good, reliable online stores that offers the newest puzzles as well as some.
